About psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis does not offer a ready-made answer to why a person feels, chooses and acts as they do.
Analytic work is not about providing the patient with ready-made explanations for what is happening to them, giving advice, or prescribing a right way to live.
An analytic session creates a space in which a person can speak, experience their feelings, and explore what is happening in their inner life.
Symptoms, feelings, fantasies, choices and recurring patterns of behaviour may be linked to unconscious conflicts, early experiences, and established ways of perceiving oneself and relating to others.
An important part of analysis is the exploration of repetition — in relationships, in the choice of partners, and in the ways a person experiences intimacy and distance, dependence and separation, love and aggression, loss, success and failure.
These repetitions also emerge in the relationship with the analyst. Working with transference makes it possible to explore them directly within the analytic relationship.
Childhood memories, fantasies, dreams, slips of the tongue and silences all have a place in psychoanalytic work — including what is difficult to say or even to put into words.
02 / A process
Psychoanalysis is a process
Psychoanalysis is not a quick way to eliminate a symptom. It is a process in which a person gradually begins to recognise how their inner life is organised and how past experience continues to influence the present.
Regularity and continuity are important to analytic work. Sessions usually take place several times a week, creating the conditions in which thoughts, feelings, fantasies and recurring patterns can emerge and be explored over time.
In the process of analysis, the capacity to observe oneself develops — to notice one’s own reactions, distinguish feelings, recognise internal conflicts and understand more clearly what happens in relationships with other people.
This does not mean that difficult feelings disappear or that life becomes free of conflict. The aim is rather to make it possible to experience one’s inner and outer reality with greater freedom, to make choices less automatically, and to relate differently to oneself and to others.

About me
Julia Fomina
I am a psychoanalyst and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I work with adults and adolescents in private practice.
My approach is based on psychoanalytic understanding of the individual — attention to unconscious processes, inner conflicts, early experience and the ways in which these continue to shape relationships with oneself and with others.
I see psychoanalysis as a space in which it becomes possible not only to speak about difficulties, but also to explore one’s own experience in greater depth — including feelings and aspects of oneself that may be difficult to recognise, accept or put into words.
My work is grounded in regular psychoanalytic practice, personal analysis, supervision and ongoing professional development.
Ongoing professional learning is an integral part of my practice.

Working with adolescents
Adolescence is a period of intense internal change, separation from parents, the development of one’s own identity, and new ways of forming relationships.
Working with an adolescent involves a separate therapeutic space in which they can speak about what is happening to them without the presence of parents or other adults, and without having to respond to their expectations. Confidentiality is an important part of this work. At the same time, work with a minor involves certain limits to confidentiality, which are discussed with the adolescent and their parents at the beginning of therapy.
The form of communication with parents is determined individually, taking into account the adolescent’s age and the particular circumstances.

The initial session is the beginning of a conversation about what has brought you to analysis — your symptoms, experiences, relationships and life circumstances.
The first sessions provide an opportunity to begin exploring what is happening and to consider whether further analytic work together is possible.
During these initial sessions, we also discuss the format of the work, frequency of sessions and the conditions of the analytic frame.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND THE ANALYTIC FRAME
Regularity of sessions, confidentiality, respect for agreements, and clear professional boundaries are part of the psychoanalytic frame.
